A rare plant was recently observed at the Illa M. Collin Nature Preserve! Several Dwarf Ahart’s Rush (Juncus leiospermus var. ahartii) plants were found along the edges of the vernal pools in the area west of Zinfandel across from the Air Modelers club, in an area subjected to a prescribed burn last year. To avoid unintended impacts to this rare plant, we ask that visitors avoid this vernal pool area for the remainder of the wet season. To learn more about this rare plant, check out the Center for Natural Land Management's Website.
For your safety, both the Multi-Use and Equestrian Trails are currently closed between Rossmoor Bar and the Chase Drive Connector Trail. The Equestrian/Hiking Trail has completely washed out in this area and the Multi-Use Trail has suffered erosion. The detour routes people onto Ambassador Drive. View Detour Map.
