Welcome! The Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail offers the best trail access
in the Sacramento area. Thirty-two miles long, this miniature road winds from
Folsom to downtown Sacramento, paralleling the American River and stopping at
many key places along the way. The singing of your bike tires or your in-line
skate wheels on the pavement seem to say, “Welcome, and enjoy your visit.”
How to Get There
The Trail can be accessed from most parks in the American River Parkway and
from parks in Folsom including:

William B. Pond Recreation Area
Ancil Hoffman County Park C.M. Goethe Park
Howe Avenue Access
Paradise Beach Recreation Area
Rossmoor Bar Sacramento Bar
Sailor Bar Sarah Court
Waterton Access Watt Avenue Access
Upper Sunrise/ Lower Sunrise Recreation Areas
Activities
Activities along the Trail System include hiking, horseback riding, cycling,
inline skating, jogging and strolling. The Trail is also a very popular,
healthy, environmentally sound alternative for commuting to work. Visitors often
combine their Trail activities with shopping or eating, while others enjoy
fishing or picnicking beneath a shady tree. Equestrian access to the paved trail
surface is allowed only at trail crossings and bridges.
Rules of Trail Courtesy:
• Those on foot should stay on the left “soft” shoulder
• Bike riders and in-line skaters should stay on the asphalt path, right of the
yellow line.
• A 15 mph speed limit is enforced.
• Passing should only be done on the left, with a verbal warning, like “on your
left”.
• Horses are not allowed on the paved trail surface except at trail crossings
and bridges. Please yield to horses whenever they are encountered.
Hours and Fees
The park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset. Self-payment is required
if no fee collector is present.
