Welcome! Each season Sacramento Bar river access adds a special touch to
the uniqueness of the American River Parkway, located just across from the Lower
Sunrise Recreation Area. Winter and autumn find salmon fishermen elbow-to-elbow
in the chilly water. Summer finds legions of rafters drifting past the San Juan
Rapids past picnicking families. And spring brings wildflowers, animals and
nature-seeking hikers to the area. Enjoy all four seasons of Sacramento Bar!
How to Get There
From U.S. Highway 50, take the Sunrise Blvd. off-ramp. Head north to Fair
Oaks Blvd. Make a left on Fair Oaks, then an immediate left onto Pennsylvania
Avenue. The kiosk is at the end of Pennsylvania Avenue, just past Magnolia
Street.
Activities
A great place to enjoy nature, Sacramento Bar offers a wide range of
river-related activities.
• Picnickers can gaze at the river while enjoying a lunch at the picnic area.
Hikers can tromp about in the nature study area. Keep an eye on the ground to
find the tracks of raccoon and deer!
• Fishing may be the biggest attraction to Sacramento Bar. During the early
fall, anglers sometimes line up elbow-to-elbow along the Jim Jones bridge, a
bridge that connects pedestrians and bicyclists to both Sacramento Bar and Lower
Sunrise parks. Or they can try their luck and their lures in the fishing ponds
located west of the park entrance.
