TRS has always focused on abilities rather than disabilities and our programs and services have been recognized for excellence at local, state and national levels. Recreational opportunities for people with disabilities began in 1964 when the Sacramento Association for the Retarded began a social-recreation program to serve areas throughout Sacramento County
Our Program
Sacramento County launched a pilot program in 1975 using recreation and creative leisure activities to help those with developmental and physical disabilities.
We’ve expanded the program to serve people with mental/sensory impairments and special needs.
Our Staffing
We are staffed by therapeutic recreation specialists, recreation leaders, support staff and many volunteers. Since our unit was created, staff and volunteers have reached hundreds of children, teens and adults.
How we get support
We are funded primarily through fees, grants, donations and fundraisers such as the Eppie’s Great Race. You are welcome to get involved
